Color Space from John Paul Caponigro

This is a little beyond what I usually talk about, but I really like John Paul Caponigro's blog, his style, and this explanation;



This comes at an interesting time for me. I've recently sent one of my favorite images to a printer to print both 11x17 and 16x24 sizes. After much anticipation for the prints to arrive, I was extremely disappointed with the results. This printer has provided excellent quality and service over the years. So I believe it's truly a color management problem then a quality of print issue.

New Techniques

I'm always interested in improving my skills as a photographer. As such, I find trying new techniques that I find interesting helps me to improve how I look at a potential image, and allows me to expand my visual library.

Frequently I find that I'm not very good the first few times I try. I'll either write down items I'll try differently next time, or simply move on as it is not a technique I care to pursue.

Today I attempted a technique for photographing flowers that I've been interested in for a while. Generally an extension tube is required, not having one I added my 1.4 tele-extender to my 70-300mm lens. As happens so often the results weren't great, but I think this is a technique I will pursue.

Back to Blogging

OK it's time to get back on track. I haven't posted since last November, but I've got quite a few things to share. They'll be coming a piece at a time, and hopefully I can keep up with the posting at least once a week.

Going all the way back to early December, I attended an Outdoor Photographer (magazine) seminar in Raleigh. I attended one in Tampa many years ago and got to learn from one of my favorite adventure photographers, Bill Hatcher, www.billhatcher.com. This Seminar included Bob Krist, www.bobkrist.com, an excellent travel photographer who I've been following for many years. By following I mean reading about, not stocking! And David Middleton, www.davidmiddletonphoto.com who I wasn't familiar with, but fully enjoyed his presentation.

One interesting observation I made while attending both days was that no was making any pictures. Plenty of people brought in their cameras, mostly to have while talking to the vendors/sponsors of the seminar. But as I walked around downtown Raleigh before each day and during lunch, I was the only one pushing the shutter release button. It's not that I created any masterpiece, I just found it odd that out of the 145 participants each day, no one was really interested in practicing photography?

So that will get me though December, more to come soon...

TC Roberson One Act Plays

TC Roberson HS recently performed two One Act Plays; Take 5, and The Land of Cockaigne. Congratulations to all the students involved with the plays, everyone did a great job.

The picture are now online. I loaded 200 images from Saturday, showing various Cosplayers, the Dealers Room, guests (go speed racer), panels, and of course the three different JRock bands.

Sunday has quite a bit less, Cosplayers, and Artists Alley. And I was pretty much exhausted by Sunday Morning anyway.

Anime Weekend Atlanta AWA 14

The pictures are loaded... well, Friday's pictures anyway. I had planned to upload them each evening of the event but found out my laptop is out of hard drive disk space, who knew???

We arrived Thursday night to get our badges and get a jump things. Within our group the two walk-in purchases and my badge took about 10 minutes. The smart guy in our group who pre-registered (and saved money on early purchase) waited about 1 1/2 hours in line. I recommend next year taking advantage of AWA early registration and badge system. Don't remember the name, but they send out the badges a week or so before the Con.

I'll continue working on the rest of the images (Saturday and Sunday) but it will probably be next weekend before they're uploaded. Keep and eye on this blog.
